4.30 AM

Wake up and get ready to head to the airport.

5.30 AM

Arrive at the airport and make my way through security. The long lines made are worth it when there is Virgin lounge free barista coffee & buffet breakfast waiting around the corner.

6.20 AM

Hop onboard the flight and settle in for some Netflix before I fall asleep.

8.30 AM

Touch down in emerald and hop into the work ute to drive to the site. It’s one of our colleague's last days in our team so we’re transporting her present as precious cargo in the back.

9.30 AM

Arrive on site and make my way into our office. The first stop is the coffee machine.

10.00 AM

Emails. Emails. Emails. Catching up on emails from the weekend and trying to prioritise which problems to tackle first. The project I have been planning for 8 months is finally in execution, so my tasks are very dynamic at the moment.

11.30 AM

I grab the slab design drawings and head out for a pre-pour inspection. They poured the first blinding layer of concrete over the weekend, so I have to check that the depth and finish surface is in line with the design drawings. While I’m there, I’m doing safety checks and talking to the work crews to make sure that the work is being completed safely and in line with our procedures.

1.00 PM

There is a dragline operating nearby so we head there to inspect the machine for one of my other projects. On the way, we encounter one of the many forms of wildlife on-site – an emu!

1.30 PM

We arrive at the dragline. No matter how many times I see these machines, I am still blown away by their sheer size of them. Once we’re inside the machine, I take heaps of pictures and measurements of the inside of the cab area to send to the engineering designer.

3.00 PM

Drive back to the office and have another wildlife encounter.

5.00 PM

I’m finally back at my desk and collating all of the data from the concrete pre-pour inspection to send to the engineering designer for verification.

6.00P M

It’s time to head off-site to camp so we all pile into the ute and drive into town. After checking in, my colleague and I go for a run before making our way to the dining hall for some dinner.

8.30 PM

After unpacking and showering, I’m finally ready for bed.
