Pros & Cons

  • Working at TSA is quite rewarding in the sense that it's not like anything a Graduate would have done before. Coming from a technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Project Management provides a holistic view of how large scale projects are delivered and what is required. TSA provides a great atmosphere to learn and my colleagues have been extremely helpful and accommodating of my lack of knowledge.
  • Good work and social culture. Great support from management for training and development. So far in my experience, the company has been realistic in their expectations of me, but at the same time willing to let me challenge myself.
  • Great projects and good work-life balance
  • TSA creates a positive work environment by providing development opportunities, flexibility and positive reinforcement to staff.
  • The level of interaction between the general staff and the executive/leadership teams. The understanding by the executive team about how work/life balance is important and the friendly manner of the people I work with.
  • It is a very overwhelming process due to the Scope of works. During the University degree, there is a set syllabus that provides a context of what will be learnt and what is required. However, in this role, there is no set context and knowledge and technical growth is achieved via experience.
  • I'm seconded away to another company, so sometimes it is difficult to manage the relationship with my company.
  • Lack of recognition and financial compensation
  • TSA doesn't provide the most competitive salary compared to industry standards. It is also not clear who to have this conversation with internally.
  • Sometimes they can over-allocate people on projects making projects sometimes like a juggling act.

Career Prospects
The company is growing quickly, so I think there's a lot of opportunity for career growth that comes with that. My manager has spoken to me about career progression before and it certainly doesn't seem out of reach.

Corporate Social Responsibility
We have events throughout the year to support charities and we are implementing a more in-depth CSR for charity works shortly. We have a solid team on the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) for indigenous cultures and we take part in responsible recycling and waste initiatives.

Culture
There is a good culture at my company. Very relaxed at work, but not in a lazy kind of way. Everyone is very driven and it feels as though everyone is on the same team heading in the same direction. After hours everyone is very open and friendly. Because we are all working from home at the moment, we have weekly social meetings on Friday afternoon to have a few drinks with the team.

Diversity
I think we have a good balance of male/female staff and acknowledge many ethnicity within the office. I don't believe the paternity leave is adequate or fair.

My role mainly involves supporting the Project team with tasks such as meeting minutes, drafting reports, site visits, analysing claims, analysing variations, engaging consultants, dealing with contractors, observing progress and reporting to the Project lead.

My manager is a fantastic leader and mentor who has provided me with a lot of guidance and advice. Very accessible and are only a phone call away.

Office Work Environment
The office space is beautiful and located in the heart of the city with views of the harbour. Being central also means a large variety of cafes, restaurants, bars etc. to choose from. Dress Code is formal work attire.

The company pays fairly within industry/market rates. They also have a bonus system for employees after 12 months of working there. Sometimes I don't believe the bonus are fair but its better than nothing.

Training
We have a fairly loose training programme at the moment. Once a month we have a training session preparing us for an assistant project manager role once we finish the grad programme. So far it's been fairly basic, I haven't learned a lot of new skills, but the presenters are always good.

As a project manager managing a few different projects in a couple of different sectors I do work long hours. TSA is great in that they understand we have lives outside of the office as we are able to enjoy a good work/life balance. The office doesn't feel like an office when I'm in there - its more like a mass gathering of friends.

TSA implemented the keep cup and very good recycling processes (general recycling, battery recycling). We are very conscious about GREEN initiatives in all the offices.
